Shiyu Chang

Bio

Dr. Shiyu Chang is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara. He has extensive experience in machine learning and AI and its applications in natural language processing (NLP), and computer vision. He is a recognized expert and leader in the proposed research field of responsible and trustworthy AI and NLP. His recent studies have comprehensively covered the necessary techniques required for conducting the proposed research, including theories and algorithm designs of certified defense, interpretable AI, and large language model prompting. He has co-authored more than 100 research articles at the top conferences and journals (citation = 9,500+, H-index = 48) and received multiple recognitions, including one best paper award in ICDM 2014, and numerous faculty awards from IBM, Cisco, and Sony. The proposed research will maximally leverage and significantly broaden Dr. Chang's prior work. He also has a track record of releasing software and building services associated with his research. For example, many open-source repositories Dr. Chang contributed to have hundreds/thousands of stars on GitHub. With a proven track record, Dr. Chang has a clear roadmap to solidifying and broadening the field of responsible and trustworthy AI and NLP through this project.
