CAHSI Allyship Program

The CAHSI Allyship focuses on the success of female and all students in computing by pairing students in the fundamental courses with peers at their institution who have completed the data structures course. Protégés and Allies participate in monthly professional development cohort meetings led by CAHSI faculty and staff.  Assigned Allies and Protégé pairs connect with each other during each academic year.

The benefits of the program include learning about resources, growing from shared experiences, connecting with peers, learning from professionals, and receiving a small stipend.  While the primary focus of the program is for students who identify as women of color and who are enrolled in computing-related majors, all students who strive for excellence in inclusion are encouraged to apply.

This pilot program is funded by Reboot Representation and is available to undergraduate students at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP),the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez (UPRM), New Mexico State University (NMSU), and Kean University.

Participants

Protégés: undergraduate students pursuing computing-related majors enrolled in computing fundamentals courses.

Allies: undergraduate students who have completed data structures in computing-related majors who are passionate about excellence in inclusion in computing. They serve as role models and as engaged listeners to Protégé’s needs.

Protégés and Allies are expected to participate in monthly 1-hour professional development cohort meetings led by the Allyship Program leadership team. Allies and Proteges connect in half-hour weekly meet-ups.

Allyship participants from previous years are eligible to apply. Previous Protégé participants are encouraged to apply to serve as Allies if they meet the eligibility criteria.
