Position: Assistant Professor, University of North Texas
Cihan Tunc is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The University of North Texas. His research interest focuses on the management and security of our vastly interconnected and digitalized world. For this reason, Dr. Tunc has been focusing on different problems: Cloud computing has become the backend of our IT world, yet both management and security are still major concerns. On the one hand, we would like to minimize power consumption while keeping the performance requirements. Dr. Tunc has applied runtime dynamic VM resource allocation which fulfills the performance requirements of the applications while minimizing the VM power consumption. Additionally, the highly accepted cloud has been the target for attackers, thus Dr. Tunc introduced the automated deployment of security controls as well as system-level moving target defense to minimize the success of attacks. Additionally, to introduce protection, we can focus on understanding the normal operations of a protocol or environment or users through machine learning to detect any anomalies (anomaly behavior analysis) and take required actions as defined in custom-created policies in an automated way. This approach can be applied to multiple domains for successful management and protection of our cyberspace. Lately, he has been working on the management and security of drones and swarm management.
