Jing Yuan

Position: Assistant Professor, University of North Texas

Bio

Dr. Yuan is currently serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas. Her research background is primarily focused on developing efficient and robust artificial intelligence systems, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary research areas such as computational social science, viral marketing, and mobile computing. She is particularly interested in designing and developing fundamental models and algorithms that advance various fields of research, including big data analysis, networked data analysis, social media advertising, and cyber-physical systems. Despite the remarkable success of artificial intelligence systems in recent years, it has become increasingly clear that their predictions and decisions can often be discriminatory in critical domains such as healthcare, education, employment, and risk assessment. In light of this, Dr. Yuan has directed her research efforts towards designing algorithmic and data-driven tools that can help facilitate decision-making under uncertainty while taking into account application-specific requirements and efficiently enforcing those requirements. She is currently working on addressing algorithmic bias issues in machine learning and developing fair solutions that come with performance guarantees. Through her research, Dr. Yuan aims to promote the development of more ethical and socially responsible artificial intelligence systems that can benefit individuals and society as a whole.
