Bio
Dr. Tang is an assistant professor in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California Merced. He is interested in computer vision problems including 2D/3D visual perception, visual localization, and scene understanding, with a focus on unsupervised learning, weakly-supervised learning, and optimization methods. He was a research scientist in machine learning and perception at Meta reality labs working on 3D perception and visual localization for AR/VR devices. His research goal is to make computer vision models more data-efficient and compute-efficient by leveraging optimization methods, probabilistic graphical models, semi-supervised learning, generative AI, etc. Recently, he has been working on the intersection of generative AI and discriminative visual perception and has developed methods for generative data augmentation and novel network architectures for image synthesis. His work appears at major computer vision conferences and journals including ICCV/CVPR/ECCV/AAAI/TPAMI/IJCV.
